What was the highlight of Grand Memories Santa Maria Hotel
Grand memories indeed because of staff who truly cared.
Staff are great and having 3 resorts in one enabled more eating options for Sanctuary and Grand Memories guests. Close to the shopping, dining, event area where as the other resorts on the island are further away.
As a hotel GM I could write a whiny list of nit pick room deficiencies and deride the typical buffet food but the room was spacious and clean and they had lots of fresh made options on the buffet so who cares.

Total rip-off.
The beach is wonderful. Some of the staff are very friendly.
Not by the remotest stretch of the imagination a 5 star hotel. We were kept waiting three hours - until 1am - in reception at check-in because they said they did not have our reservation. This despite the fact that the hotel took full payment one month before we arrived. They "explained" later it was because booking.com is an American website. "Grand Memories" "Memories Paraiso" and "Memories Sanctuary" form a single resort of 1500 rooms in what look like Soviet apartment blocks. Ordinary rooms are called junior suites. Dining has no waiter service option it is a buffet scrum for all meals. We paid $350 per room per night for "3 junior suites" for four nights - total $3,500. We got exactly the same thing the 1,000s of other people there on cheap package tours were getting for which the hotel was getting $40 per room per night. It's like Butlins only less classy.

Rooms have not more than 3 beds, so a family should share a large bed or get 2 rooms. Staff is not well organized: we asked many times for the same issues. I expected more for paying so much.
